The growing tsunami of data generated daily by digital interactions isn’t restricted to corporations. A lot of this data pertains to individuals, and much of it is controlled by third parties. Practical obscurity – the basis for privacy norms throughout history – is fast disappearing. More and more aspects of our lives are becoming observable, linkable and identifiable. Thanks to networked computing technologies, this personal data is archived online and will be forever searchable.

But this availability of personal information isn’t just something that is being done to the public, it is being done by the public. Many of us are willing accomplices in dissolving our own privacy rights, in exchange for new services, conveniences, and efficiencies.

Não sei se concorda com Cavaco que a nossa situação é insustentável, mas aposto que é adepto da recente reformulação avançada por Passos Coelho: 'estamos à beira da insustentabilidade'. É preciso mudar.. Não interessa que, apesar da situação dramática do país (o que não é o mesmo que 'insustentável' ou 'à beira da insustentabilidade'), Portugal esteja de facto a mudar; não interessa que modernizar Portugal não seja algo que suceda de um dia para o outro. Para estes novos-revolucionários há uma fórmula mágica para a mudança, uma bala de prata.

    Muito bom Paulo (querido mesmo!) é impressionante o que acontece hoje, acho que a frase final encerra tudo sabe: "Muitos de nós somos cúmplices em dissolver os nossos direitos de privacidade, em troca de novos serviços, conveniências e eficiência." Penso que isso é algo que nem George Orwell sonhou quando engenhosamente concebeu o seu 1984. Por vezes lembro-me também do THX-1138 de George Lucas. Acontece tudo tão rápido quem nem temos quase tempo para entender realmente o que está ocorrendo…
