“This exploration of the crowdsourcing model as applied to journalism has presented an emerging practice that is upholding traditional ideals of journalism, and at the same time offering new ideals to co-exist with the old. The hybridity of the practice brings with it a tension between the values of a refined craft, and those of a new collaborative knowledge culture as explored in the theoretical review. While there is little scholarly literature on crowdsouced news, theories regarding collective intelligence provided insight into what the model—functioning in its ideal form—might achieve.
